Snow geese spend the winters in the southern United States and fly north to their breeding grounds in the arctic tundra in the Spring. There are an estimated 2 million snow geese that spend their winters along the Outer Banks. There used to be so many geese that Bodie Island Lighthouse had problems with flocks crashing into the lens.
